A paper published in the Winter 2023 issue of Perspectives in Health Information Management takes a closer look at the impact of the transition to ICD-10 on research activities. Specifically, the paper explores and identifies issues of duplicate ICD codes between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM in orthopedic- and injury-related research. The author asserts that special attention should be drawn to retrospective research involving methods of injury spanning ICD-9 and ICD-10 systems.
